This work, is part of the series " THE MIRROR AND THE MASK." The main inspiration for this work is the portrait, fascinating, side by side with a mask. The mask as an instrument of deception, but also as a tool for deepening self-knowledge. Mixed Techniques in the constant search for new balances by Ezio Ranaldi. The metaphorical meaning widely used in contemporary society: the mask as an instrument of deception, double-crossing, opportunism, but wearing a mask also means overcoming fear for everything that transcends the will of men. The otherness of the mask responds not only to the need to be another, but to be able to communicate with the other world, to estrange oneself from the real world, to hide and reveal oneself as in a magical ritual. In this collection, the Artist intends to address the enigma of his own image, an identity that in many is equivocal, overshadowed , counterfeit. In fact, the portrayed faces manifest thoughtful expressions some, absent others, obscure, fascinating, penetrating, involved in the common need to "be such" and not to "have to appear." The search for one's identity, which drives to true self-knowledge . The awareness that everything in life is semblance.

In this work Ezio Ranaldi took as a reference the work of Hugues Merle , Mary Magdalene in the cave, a painting made around the year 1868. The artist brings the old masters into dialogue with mass culture. His unmistakable modus operandi, he combines Pop strategies and suggestions, with the art of the past. In this work the artist reworks, mythological, religious and historical themes, almost always centered on female figures. At the center of the scene, a strongly seductive female image, exaltation of beauty and charm. The languid expression seems to want to accentuate the charge of pathos, (passion). enchanting and suave face, with a clear and candid complexion. The gaze is turned to a point outside the scene, and imparts a feeling of penitence and atonement. In his work , he connects references drawn from mass culture, to references inspired by art history, to propose new meanings to be returned to the viewer. A bridge between ancient and contemporary.

CIGARETTE PORTRAIT NO.10 - CANVAS 80X40 - 226/16RE I was inspired by a woman smoking , and the sensual attitude that only a woman knows or can assume. The "cigarette portrait" of photographic memory from the past, prompts me to seek unusual poses of female smokers, as I will show later. The portrait itself, I am passionate about, the 'enigmatic and mysterious image, one's identity that in many is equivocal, counterfeit. Indeed, the faces portrayed manifest thoughtful expressions some, absent others, fascinating, caught up in the common need to "be such" and not to "have to appear." The search for one's identity, which drives to true self-knowledge, and the realization that everything in life is semblance. In this work, a sensual female portrait, conducted with a loose pictorial gesture, (action painting). And here these portraits, are almost never simple portraits, but archetypes of contemporary femininity. Through which they express their own philosophy of life.

The series inspired by the portrait and the smoking woman continues. In this work, a sensual female portrait, conducted with a fresh pictorial gesture and full of symbols: the triangle, symbolizing perfection, a blue semicircle for intellect, red, for passion, the triqueta, which associated with the number three, is considered a sacred number. And so these portraits, are almost never mere portraits, but archetypes of contemporary femininity. Through which to express one's philosophy of life. ... I was inspired by the Venetian Francesco Hayez's Bare-breasted Beauty - The major protagonist of Italian Romanticism. The Meditation - 1850. In the foreground a young woman, beautiful and provocative, naive gaze, meditates, we would say today about our culture , the fate of humanity. What is at stake, whose sacrifice? The painting has been published several times in major Italian magazines, and has participated in important exhibitions in Italy and abroad. A bridge between the ancient and the contemporary. I was inspired by the naked-breasted belle by the Venetian Francesco Hayez - the major protagonist of Italian Romanticism. MEDITATION - 1850. In the foreground a young woman, beautiful and provocative, naive gaze, an allegory of freedom as "liberty" was often depicted at the time with a woman with bare breasts (see "Liberty Leading the People" a manifesto work of Romanticism in France). Meditate, we would say today on our culture , on the fate of humanity. What is at stake, whose sacrifice? The painting has been published several times in major Italian magazines, and has participated in important exhibitions in Italy and abroad.
