It is the alternating waves of Consciousness that must be extinguished, in the sense that they must give way to a state of absolute calm, of non-movement, like the calm sea water that reflects the moon. In this state the soul expands to Infinity and becomes Emerson's oversoul, mistranslated by Nietzsche into Superman.
