“Gero” is my artist name; my real name is Girolamo Peralta. As regards art, I’m a semi-autodidact. In fact, I had my schools of technics and of thought, and my teachers. At high school I learnt the art of drawing and at the university the philosophy of art: psychology, pedagogy, philosophy, aesthetics.
I conceived a passion for Aristotle’s theory of Catharsis and for Allmayer’s Rievocazione Estetica (Aesthetical Commemoration), which I try to put into practise not only with my paintings, but in everyday life as well. In art, in order to feel more free to express myself, I follow the Debussy Line: “not a single centre”, “not a single direction”. My genre is a semi-abstractionism, or “Figurative Abstractionism”. My intent: representing the ideas of the Causal World or, according to Plato, of Hyperuranium.
Art can’t be a simple imitation of nature because in art, and thanks to it, it’s the Infinite which is in us that expresses itself: Pascoli’s Fanciullino, the inspiring Muse, Plato’s Demiurge, Emerson’s “Oversoul”, Yogananda’s “Supersoul”.
