I attended first grade at the school of "Villa Comunale" in Pagani (Salerno). I remember that the master of which still remember the name "Cardo Emilio," I was always drawing.
While other students were regular classes, I draw, paint, and once completed the drawings the teacher took them and saves them.
I lived in Thomas Street. Fusco, San Francisco district, and every morning I went walking at the Institute of elementary schools in crossing the Corso E. Padovano, both outward and return I stayed for hours watching a painter-photographer "Todor Lauria.
I remember as if it were now, an oil painting of Christ on huge dimensions. It was a classic, a realist. His painting fascinated me so much that even when his office was closed, I stayed out of the window to observe the paintings.
Carpio shapes, colors, brush strokes, what attracted me, I used to shape the mind, soul, pushed me to imitate. ......... Draw from his work with the various techniques used.
It was the feast of Easter to create the opportunity for me and some of my classmates were going to find our. professor at his home. I remember we opened the professor and made us sit in the hall, peeped from his wife to another room where the professor once said: "This is Apa, the kid who made those drawings, the wife approached me and Bravo said, come here, and let me see that part of my drawings, she had framed and put in the hallway.
Since that day I always drew, painted, I used pastels, tempera, friendly approach in childhood and adolescence, I learned the various techniques used, so I got the oil.
By entering in the works in oil, came the period of having to study the works done by other painters and artists began to buy books and art history, forming a large library, I went to visit exhibitions, I began to take over and to refine techniques performed by other artists.
I have drawn from the classical churches in my country rich in paintings and frescoes, I have drawn from Giotto, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Caravaggio, Solimene, all classics, all the avant-garde art from the end of the twentieth century settencento; names like Gericault, Delacroix, Millet , Igres, Seurat, Degas, Boldini, Munch, Baltus, etc.. etc. that the principle seemed unpronounceable, after years of study and daily contact with their painting made me realize that now "they" belong to me and I think that now passing whole days to study their pictures and tributes to devote even I now belong to them.
